It is Saturday, Hooray!

My Other Desk

I talk about my work indirectly but today I will share what exactly I do. This is typically what my table looks like when I am out at an event. Besides talking to people about going to college face to face, one on one; I also give presentations to classrooms and large audiences. We go to a variety of different events to do a variety of different things. We, the Outreach Team (Lindsey, Srey, Rebecca, and myself) are the face of GRCC. We are often thought of as the "cheerleaders" of the college because of our job of promoting the college and we are treated as celebrities. Those of us that work at this type of job are outgoing, love to work with people, do not have a problem with getting out in front of an audience to talk, or give events or tours to groups coming onto the campus. When representative of a college get together socially we are loud and talk over each other to be heard. We work very hard and at this time of the year we get very tired because we have been out to many night events called Postsecondary Nights (Beyond High School Nights and College Fair Nights). Even though we get tired, we love our jobs. Many people can see we have fun at what we do and tell us that they would love to have our job. Now when I say I have an event you can see what it looks like when I am somewhere. Have a great day!

Happy Birthday Brittany!

Brittany is 18 years old today!

It is hard to believe, but 18 years ago today I had been pacing the floor of Kaiser Hospital in Bellflower, CA with my sister because she was having a baby. We would walk and walk. Each bed I passed by through the night I would wish that I could lay down and take a nap. But, I kept on walking because the nurses said it helped with labor. She had gone into the hospital the evening before on October 23rd. When I arrived my mom, stepdad, and Krista's friend Mike was there. In the early morning after the sun came up she delivered Brittany. The delivery went well except for the cord being around Brittany's neck. I felt a moment of panic but they just took care of it and soon Brittany was born.

My sister died from an automobile accident in 1992. It seems like yesterday and a long time ago all at the same time. What makes it more really is to look at the beautiful young lady that Brittany has become and then I realize that time has passed. I didn't know how it was possible to live without Krista in the world. It took years to overcome the sadness and to accept her death. Now there is sweet memories and the promise that I will see her again one day in heaven. I know I will as sure as I am breathing... I am only one breath away from seeing her again.

But for now... it is Brittany's day! The day she becomes an adult. I pray that she makes good choices and plans out a future. I pray for a man to come along is God's timing that will be a good husband to her, and many other things. The future is bright for you, Brit.

Pajamarama - Storytime

Riley dancing and singing with storyteller at the library.

Brady (the boy sitting next to the little girl on the left of her) gets really into the story and loves to be right up front.

Pajamarama" is something we started to do a few weeks ago on Tuesday nights. The kids wear their PJs to storytime so that they can go to bed right afterwards when they get home. The story lady tells at least 5 stories to them. Riley must have at least 30 mins of stories read to him a week. So this is added to his homework sheet to turn in to his teacher. She also will do games or sing songs with them. It is a lot of fun and they love it. They also love picking out the books that I or their mom will read them the rest of the week. We also get videos.

One of the funny moments I had there this week was when we passed by the magazines. Riley saw magazines that I would like to read. He spotted ones with pumpkins etc such as "Good Housekeeping". Riley is like that... is is observant and knows what everyone wants or likes around him. He said "Grandma, this one is for you!". I said "thanks, but I have plenty to read at home". Brady passed by a car magazine. His head took a double take as he saw the sleek red car on front. "Wow" he said and grabbed that magazine for himself. He doesn't read yet but even at 3 years old he know what he likes. I believe Brady will be like most men and always love cars.

Let's Talk...

Balance
My friend Renee told me yesterday that we have 64 days until Christmas. I didn't check, but it sounds about right. With all the stress in the news these days and all we do in our lives, how is your "balance"? Mine is unsteady but I am doing alright. It isn't easy but I try to keep things moving along at an easy pace. I must say that I have had to change somethings lately; one is not watching the news. I just can't. It depresses me... maybe it is the tone they use on the news shows. So I read the news online. I am very guarded about my peace. Peace is very important to balancing your life, in my opinion.
I pray all the time too. When in the shower, in the car, walking across campus etc. I prayed when I dropped my vote into the mailbox the other day. I don't think I can pray enough.
I try to be around only those people that add joy etc (nothing negative) to my day or time. I must say I love coming here to see my blogging friends.
So that is a little on how I balance my life... How about you?

Cynthia and Breast Cancer

By Jules and Little Graphics

Today I would like to dedicate my post to my friend Cynthia. She discovered that she has breast cancer and she is undergoing surgery today. They are going to remove her breast. If they find out that the cancer has spread then they will, of course, have more to remove. She will have to go through three surgeries in all. Please pray for her.

Mom Is In The Hospital Again...

Us Girls... Mom on top left

Mom is in the hospital again for a few days. Please pray for her quick recovery. Ron called yesterday to tell me that she was in again because she hadn't been taking her medicine to get rid of the water in her system. So, she began to swell up again. She has conjestive heart failure so it is important that she takes it. She doesn't like the fact that it makes her to to the "restroom" so much. OK... I know that doesn't make sense. I believe that she didn't mean to do this to herself... and actually, it sounds like something Kari would do. So the ADHD and behavior may be a factor here. She has made Ron her "medication buddy". He is now "allowed" by her to ask her or remind her to take her medications. Whatever it takes. I am Kari's "buddy". She has got good at taking her meds for ADHD. I now help her with other issues that maybe overwhelming to her.

This week will be busy... so hold on tight. I will try to pace my way through at an even trot.
