Herb's Place

This is the little cabin we will be staying out this weekend. This is a Bed and Breakfast but this one isn't all in one building. This cabin is called "Herb's Place" because it was a fishing cabin that "Herb" used to stay in when he fished the river below.

Here is the river below. It is the Snoqualmie River. In this part of the country, one is very respectful of the rivers and water. I have never heard of so many accidents and drownings as I have since I have come to Washington. In California, there may have been a couple at that beach or a boat accident, but here... even those that know what they are doing are not guaranteed anything. I would not go anywhere near the river below but will admire it's beauty from here or the swing in the picture below.

Low And Slow

Ramone is a "low rider" car in the movie "Cars"... he is "low and slow".

That is how you could describe me these last few days. I have just been "cruising" this week. I have been coughing so much and wheezing but I am slowly getting better. I have been just like Ramone; low and slow. So, I really don't have much to write about today on my post.

We didn't have the boys last night so we went to the library. I was able to order the book that I am to read for the book club. Hopefully I can turn on my English Literature BA skills and get it read in time. It was nice to read some magazines in quiet. We hadn't done that in a long time. I chose magazines about the country such as Country; Country Home; Country Living. They were all about fall and fall decorating etc.

This weekend we will leave to go to our favorite bed and breakfast in North Bend to celebrate our 3rd anniversary. Our anniversary will be September 24 but since it is in the middle of the week this year, we thought we would celebrate this weekend.

Dave and I dated for 6 years before getting married. Of course we had been married before. We both had to recover etc. About 3 years into our dating, Kari found out she was pregnant and needed my assistance. Finally we felt the time was right, so we were married in this small chapel in Redondo. You can see the chapel and view by clicking HERE.

Today, Friday, I will be again at the Puyallup Fair. It has been over a week since I was last there so I am ok with going back again for a few hours. The weather has taken a change to being cooler. It is beginning to act more like fall rather than a late summer.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Bold Bathroom Colors

Here is the picture we picked out to go with the room. Sorry for the reflection of the light in the glass. You can see the green in this picture well. Now as I step back you can see where we brought in the other color and accented it with the shower curtain which has all the colors we are using.
You can also see the hooks that we are using rather than a towel rack. The kids murder our towel rack. We saw this idea at a bed and breakfast and thought we would try it out.
The camera isn't picking up everything well and these were the best pictures I could take that was close to what I am seeing with my own eye. There is a skylight in that room and so I will see tomorrow if I can do any better.

You can see that we are using the bold northwest Starbucks colors... Coffee anyone?

Let's Talk...

I will try to take some photos of the changes Dave and I made in the main bathroom. We are getting out of our comfort zone with more bold colors. We admire them in places like Starbucks etc, so we thought we would try it more at home. It was more of a challenge for Dave than for me because I just figure if you don't like something, you can paint over it again. Wait! It was Dave that told me that... Hey, that isn't fair. Anyway, I have been noticing a cinnamon color lately that decorators are using, so we bought some to paint one of the walls and then painted two of the walls. My plan was to paint the other walls with a cream or vanilla color (not too daring) but we ended up using one of our greens. So try to imagine that... and I will be back with some pictures tomorrow. What have you been doing lately that has been creative?

Opening Day

Opening Day is when the instructors come back to the college.

Since June 14th, three months ago, the instructors have not been on campus. Some of them have since they taught summer quarter, but not all of them. The campus is certainly a lot more quiet when instructors and students are not there. However, today the instructors came back to what we call Opening Day. We all meet in the large main dining room and have a light breakfast. We hear the President give his annual speech. We also hear from a key note speaker, outstanding staff awards are given out, and awards for how many years one has worked at the college. We then are given a nice lunch. The instructors go on to workshops for the rest of the day while we go back to our offices to catch up on our e-mails.

I was happy that I didn't cough too much during the speeches and presentations. I had plenty of things to drink and had taken my medicine. I wore a new shirt that I was getting compliments on left and right. That made me feel pretty good. I am not the more fashion savvy person and when I actually get something right, I am more happy about it than you would think (or I would think). So, I got started on the right foot this year.

Kari and the boys were here for dinner tonight. I made a home cooked meal which everyone was happy about too. The boys will stay with me tonight and I will take them to school in the AM. Kari has another retreat, but with the Valley Cities people that she is learning from to be a counselor. So we are on schedule tonight with boys in bed and me going to bed too at the same time. I get to read my magazines until I know the boys are sleeping. Then it is lights out for me too.

Monday and A Day Off

Hi... I am back. I don't have much to post today really since I have been only in the house. I can report on Rachel Ray etc. I did go to the BBQ on Saturday because Dave asked me to go. I did OK but I didn't go outside with the others when they were there so that I wouldn't get chilled etc. I called mom while they were out there and read a magazine. One by one someone would come in to visit with me. I wasn't having a fever anymore but I was still tired from coughing all night long.

I had this kind of upper respiratory virus last year. So today I called the clinic and talked with the nurse. They wrote me a prescription for cough syrup and an inhaler. It has helped a lot today.

Dave and I had the day off today. This was planned. We went to the mall to the bookstore and ate there. We also have been painting our main bathroom and buying new things to accent it. We had bought a shower curtain and hooks for the towels. We needed a new toothbrush holder and a picture. I will take some photos and post them soon. This was rather daring for us. We used "Starbucks" colors in a bold way for us. We did find the holder and a picture that we thought would work.

We also went for a drive. It has been sunny here in the Northwest. The mornings are cool but the days are in the high 70s. We start out with a light jacket and then end up shedding it later. I had to bring in a few jackets from the car because that is where they ended up.

We also went out on a "date night" tonight to a popular Mexican Food restaurant. The other day we received gift cards for going to the movies, to dinner, and shopping, both of us. So we choose to use Dave's dinner card tonight... and he still has $20 left on it. We will set a time to use the other dinner card or movie cards (with popcorn) over the next few months for "date night". My dinner card is for Black Angus.

OK, now for the question as to whether Brady made it on a school bus. Drum roll, please.... Yes, he did! Woooo Whooooo

Sunday

Today being Sunday, I am off from blogging. Besides, I am still not all that well. Talk to you on Monday. Have a good day!
