Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

April 24th, was the national date for "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day". In the middle of everything I was doing to prepare for the breakfast this morning, I picked up Riley when I went to pick up the flowers for the center pieces for the tables. I took him back to the college and brought him up to my office. He met everyone and Phillip gave him a little pig that was in his gift basket from his In Service winnings. Riley thought it was so cool because the nose lights up and it makes a noise. Next, we went across to see one of the speakers and he saw the pond with a fountain in it that impressed him. On we went to the Automotive program where I could show him how they fix cars when they don't work.

Dan, the instructor in Automotive, asked Riley if he would like to see the race car. Of course Riley did. We went to see the car and he let Riley climb up in to the front seat of the car. He asked Riley if Riley knew how to drive a car and Riley said he did. But then he said, "can I talk to my grandma?" He was all of a sudden worried that he would have to really drive it. He was so cute... such a little guy in this big race car.

I talked to Riley about jobs and how the people around us are at their jobs making money so that they can buy things. He really got the idea that training/ education = work = money etc. I made it really simple and he had lots of fun. He told me that he wanted to be the guy riding the lawn mower. OK... That's a job. :-)

I had dinner with Susie (my best friend that works at UWT). She worked with me years ago in the same school district and that is when we became friends. She was at the Teen Expo event last night too.

Keep me in your thoughts this morning. This is the one of the events that I am "lead" on as coordinator. It should be great... I am nervous about how many people will come through the door tomorrow. The room holds 80 people. We are at 75 expected. There isn't much room for many more but those that assist me with this event thought that it was best when we used the smaller room rather than the Main Dining Room which is too big. Well, anyway... It's Show Time. Maybe I will have pictures to show you.

Have a fantastic Friday. You know what? I will be in So. California this time next week. Wow, does time fly! And so will I ;-)

It sounds like you made Riley's day lots of fun. What a great idea to be able to take kids to work like that so they get to see what you do. I hope today goes well for you, I'm sure you'll do great.

BTW, I have a little clock on my blog which shows the time it is here, so it takes the guess work out of it for everyone. I keep a clock her set to the time it is in Detroit where my daughter will soon be living. Maybe I should add a little clock on my blog set at her time once she moves as it also shows the am/pm.

Hope you enjoy your weekend.
Huggles.

Danna,

How neat that Riley got to go to work with you, & see that 'world'. Sounds like you made it so much fun for him, & I am sure he will remember it long after yesterday. He sounds so sweet - I had to smile about him thinking he might have to drive. :-) Have a blessed weekend. Hugs!

Sounds like Riley enjoyed the day. Hope your event went well and I'm sure it did. When Jessica was little and was asked what she wanted to do when she grew up she'd answer, "Taxi driver!" Where that came from, I'll never know because I don't ever remember her riding in a cab. Enjoy the weekend! (((Hugz)))
